If you’ve never heard of ‘breatharianism,’ we’re here to tell you about it. We’ll also touch on some of the scientific research conducted around the idea that a person can survive on this planet without eating or drinking anything.
Breatharianism is a practice that has been around for quite sometime, having been referenced in the
writings of numerous cultures found around the planet. There are also common themes in Buddhism that describe humans who possess incredible abilities and unique traits, such as the ability to live without needing food or drink.
While extraordinary traits like telepathy, remote viewing and precognition have all been studied somewhat thoroughly, breatharianism is one area that has received little to no attention. Which could be argued as somewhat odd, considering many brilliant thinkers have spoken of this possibility, including Nikolai Tesla back in 1901
“My idea is that the development of life must lead to forms of existence that will be possible without nourishment and which will not be shackled by consequent limitations. Why should a living being not be able to obtain all the energy it needs for the performance of its life functions from the environment, instead of through consumption of food, and transforming, by a complicated process, the energy of chemical combinations into life-sustaining energy?”
I know, this idea, on its face, seems like something that is pretty much impossible. But, some scientists and researchers have looked at a few cases of people who are capable of living without consuming food or water.
Dean Radin, Chief Scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences and author of a book based entirely on ‘supernormal’ people, explains his doubts that hundreds of people are lying about being able to live without food or water:
“The implication is that the human body can transmute ambient energy into nutrients, and through the practice of cultivating this ability one can live comfortably for as long as one wishes without food, and possibly without drinking water. This is described as a siddhi in the Yoga Sutras as Pada 111.30: liberation from hunger and thirst.
This flies in the face of a substantial body of medical knowledge, which has established that the human body can last about five days without water, and a few weeks at most without food. Beyond that, you’re dead. As a result, despite a host of historical examples of people lasting for years without eating, and sometimes without drinking, most nutritionists and biochemists regard such claims to be ridiculously impossible, and the people who make the claims—currently dozens to hundreds worldwide—to be seriously delusional. Some of those claimants may well be delusional. But all of them?”
Prahlad Jani is an Indian man who says that he was visited by the Hindu goddess Amba when he was 11 years old, and that she told him he would never have to eat food again. Evidently, this man has lived in a cave since the 70s, claiming to have never eaten anything for the duration of his 81 years here on Earth.
Back in 2003, and then again in 2010, Jani was tested at Ahmedabad’s Sterling Hospital by a team of doctors trying to confirm that Jani was capable of living without food. The team, headed by Dr. Sudhir Shah, who has over 20 years of experience as a neurologist, monitored Jani 24/7 to make sure he did not eat or drink over the course of 10 days.
After the 10-day period was over, they discovered that not only was Jani fine, but he experienced absolutely zero physiological changes from not eating or drinking anything. This man has scientists and researchers completely dumbfounded because his existence challenges everything we’ve learned about human physiology, biology, and mankind’s basic needs for survival.
As mentioned previously, he was also tested in 2010, seven years after the first study. During this study, he was asked to do the same thing, but for two weeks. Again, Jani proved to researchers he possessed extraordinary abilities.
